At Gregory Distribution Ltd (GDL), as a result of continued growth, we have a vacancy for a LGV Driver Trainer based in Shepton Mallet Depot. This is an exciting opportunity to make your own within the GDL business. Reporting to the Operational Training Manager based in Cullompton, you will work closely with Transport Managers, Supervisors and Drivers to assess, train and monitor drivers who are being recruited into or are employed by the company.
The position involves:
Carrying out driving assessments on all potential new drivers at interview stage.
Deliver the Driver Certificate of Competence (DCPC) including the induction of all new drivers.
Deliver DCPC and refresher training on;
defensive and fuel economy driving
customer care and paperwork
EU and UK driver’s hours and tachograph regulations
health and safety and safe systems of work
Road Transport working time regulations
vehicle telematics and other on-board systems.
The Driver Trainer/Assessor must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the transport industry/driving instructional skills, which give confidence to those they will be assessing/training.
Carrying out periodic assessments of all drivers and identifying training needs, this will involve travelling to a variety of sites.
Ensure good communication and working relationships with drivers and managers are maintained.
Maintain robust and accurate training records.
Providing support to recruitment events and occasional out of hours training activities.
Essential Skills required:
Hold or be working towards a recognised LGV training or assessment qualification.
At least 3 years LGV CE driving licence.
Computer literacy – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Transport legislation, safe and fuel efficient driving theory.
Good interpersonal skills, confident, able to work on own initiative and as part of team.
Effective communicator, with the ability to develop internal and external relationships.
Flexible working hours
Desirable Skills required:
DSA registered LGV Instructor – Fork lift instructor Teaching qualification (PTTLS or above)
Training and assessing experience.
