Road Accidents involving HGVs falls to new all-time low
New data in the Department for Transport's Road Casualties Great Britain 2006 shows
road casualties involving HGVs fell to a new all-time low of 458 (down 12 per cent on
2005 and 23 per cent lower than 1996). The number of 'all-severity' accidents (where
an injury or fatality was recorded) also fell to a new low of 11,336, down six per cent on 2005 and 17 per cent lower than 1996.
HGVs 'all-severity' accident rate of 39 vehicles involved per 100 million vehicle
kilometres compares to a car rate of 67 and a van rate of 24.
