GDL Cullompton becomes the first of Dairy Crest’s 12 planned Regional Distribution Centres, creating 40 warehousing and driving jobs to handle the prestigious new contract.
The operation involves collecting milk from Dairy Crest’s factory near Gloucester, transporting it to Cullompton for chilled storage, order picking and onward delivery to Sainsbury and Morrison stores and to Dairy Crest’s own depots in the South West.
To accommodate the increase in chilled product to be handled through Cullompton, GDL has invested in enlarged chilled warehouse capacity as well as extending both lorry and car parking facilities at the site. The contract will be managed by Brian Stoneman, Chilled Contract Manager and his team.
Managing Director, Andy Walker said: “This is great news for the company and for the surrounding area. The decision to invest at Cullompton enabled us to provide a competitive offer for Dairy Crest and we’re delighted our decision has been rewarded.
“Dairy Crest is a long standing GDL customer and this new opportunity demonstrates our ability to work with and develop alternative solutions to cope with an ever-changing marketplace.”
Martin Oakes, Managing Director for Dairy Crest’s Dairy Division added: “We are pleased to announce this new partnership with GDL and have been impressed with their positive response and swift delivery of this solution.”
