Gregory goes Green goes Greendale
GDL has announced the acquisition of Greendale Haulage from FWS Carter & Sons.
In recent years Greendale, with its well-known slogan: Go Green - Go Greendale, has built a significant niche in the recycling sector transporting waste paper, cans and plastics. With government policy requiring local authorities to increase recycling levels, the business is set to grow further.
All existing Greendale staff including 30 drivers, transport operators and the administration section have transferred to Gregory Distribution, which also acquired Greendale's 30 trucks and 'walking floor' trailers - a mechanism which maximises payloads by shunting loose materials to the rear of the trailer.
The company announced that Greendale Haulage will continue to trade under the Greendale brand and will be operated from its current base at Woodbury Salterton in Devon as a separate business unit. Operational responsibility will fall to Contracts Manager Bob Lovelace, who is also responsible for Gregory's significant distribution agreement with chipboard manufacturer Norbord. Bob reports to Dave Chudley.
Chief Executive John Gregory said: "Waste management has experienced exponential growth in recent years and the trend is set to continue. The Carter family have made a decision to sell the business in the belief that they have taken Greendale as far as they are able in terms of further investment in both equipment and depots, as well as the impending compliance with the Working Time Directive.
"For GDL, it is an opportunity to enter a growth sector with quality trucks and trailers as well as a dedicated workforce."
Rowan Carter of FWS Carter & Sons added: "It is with mixed feelings that we are selling our 'walking floor' operation, but we believe the time is right for the business to be managed by a company that can give it the focus it requires in such a rapidly expanding market.
"We are especially pleased that, like us, Gregory Distribution is a Devon based business and one that can provide the necessary investment and utilise their existing depot network to expand on this already successful business."
Ownership of Greendale Haulage changed hands on 1st December 2004.
